UNM Students - have you ever wanted to try kayaking, but didn't know
where to start? Now here's your chance! The Whitewater Weekend Getaway
Adventure program filled up in 4 days(!!) with a waiting list. There
was so much interest in kayaking, that we have chartered a UNM Kayak
Club, and are making plans to get a few boats, raise some funds for a
few trips, and share some good times together. There will be no formal instruction...
at the event (hence the name 'free-for-all'), but we will be playing
some fun games like Kayak Polo and learning the basics to have fun that
night. A nominal $10 charge goes to cover pool rental. Any remaining
proceeds will go to the UNM Kayak Club to purchase gear, fund future trips, etc. A
4hr "Intro to Kayak" class will be offered on Nov. 14 (Sunday) 8am -
12, for those who want formal instruction, to be able join us on future
trip. The
class is regularly $75, and includes all boats, gear and pool
rental. A special UNM price of $65 will be offered to
current students
and staff. If we get 8 or more students, New Mexico Kayak Instruction
will donate $15/person to the UNM Kayak Club. So, invite your friends,
classmates, roommates and facebook buddies. "Like" this to show your
freinds list the cool things you're up to!
I took Kelly's Intro to Kayaking class and an individual Roll class. Kelly was great. He is a very gracious teacher, always trying to individualize his teaching to each student. I learned how to roll and hand-roll in one Roll Class session. He is very personable and he was accommodating to my busy schedule. Additionally, his passion for kayaking really shows. I look forward to kayaking with him in the future.

My girls were Brownies. From a leader perspective, I wanted to see something fun, and that would build confidence. This was one of our first real "outings" as a Girl
Scout. I was looking for something "different", something with a sense of adventure/out of the ordinary (something they don't do everyday) but controlled and safe. I also wanted something a bit challenging - physically, but also something they hadn't done before, something that would build confidence. This really fit the bill perfectly. They didn't' want to get out of the pool!
