Instructor Candidate Application

New Mexico Kayak Instruction is pleased to offer 4 American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Certification Workshops (ICW) in June 2014.   These courses include the Level 2 Essentials of Recreational Kayaking, Level 3 River Kayaking, Level 4 Whitewater Kayaking and Level 2 Essentials of Stand Up Paddling.

NMKI will also offer an Adaptive Paddling Workshop (APW) to help paddlers better assist those with disabilities. ACA Instructors will receive an "endorsement" to teach adaptive paddling, whereas those who are not instructors will receive a "Certificate of Completion."

This sequence of ICWs and application process is intended to fill the Adaptive Paddling Workshop with ACA-certified instructors to better assist the development of our adaptive paddling programs and inclusion in community events.

The Level 2, 3 & 4 Kayak Instructor Certification Workshops are offered well below the going rate for ICWs in the Rocky Mountain Region, thanks to the support of New Mexico's only whitewater kayak Instructor Trainer (IT), Marcel Bieg.  Marcel anticipates moving away from New Mexico in July 2014.  After this, we can expect to pay full price for out-of-state courses, or otherwise cover the expenses for an IT to come to New Mexico; in either case, the prices will increase significantly.  Sign up for these 2014 ICWs and save as much as 55% off from other programs.

New Mexico Kayak Instruction, Inc. will be hiring Jose Gonzalez (Los Angeles, CA) and Joe Moore (Charleston, SC) to teach the Stand Up Paddling ICW. This is the first SUP ICW offered in New Mexico.

We will also hire Joe Moore and Julia Neal to teach the Adaptive Paddling Workshop.  These APWs are somewhat expensive to host, and there are typically only 3-4 APWs across the country each year. We are looking at alternative funding sources to bring the cost down for our volunteers, so that we may host this workshop in Albuquerque for the first time.

We are pleased to have these opportunities and encourage you to take advantage of this limited training and reduced price for employes/volunteers in our community.

Due to the expenses of flying these ITs to New Mexico, and the need for commitments from Instructor Candidates, New Mexico Kayak Instruction is offering 2 discounts to fill these classes months in advance: An Early-Bird discount and an employee/volunteer discount.

The application process below will be used to determine who is accepted into each of the four instructor course.  Please review the dates, prices and essential criteria (links to each class), and complete the application below.  Due to limited space in each class, and these unique opportunities, candidates will be selected based on their complete and thorough responses to the application questions below.  Please note - not everyone who applies will be admitted into the programs.
