All Wounded Warriors are invited to join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday "Kayak Pool Party" for as part of our growing Wounded Warrior Adaptive Kayaking Program.
Whether your injury is mental or physical, kayaking can help you regain strength and confidence, dexterity as well as a sense of adventure and community.
The "Kayak Pool Party" is a community service event hosted by New Mexico Kayak Instruction, on behalf of our community of former students - the Greater Albuquerque / Santa Fe Kayak Meetup group. This community event provides a supporting environment of willing volunteers and certified instructors. Each night, we play fun games, like Indoor Slalom, Ultimate Kayak Frisbee, Kayak Polo and other fun, team-building games.
New Mexico Kayak Instruction will provide boats and gear at no cost, but pool rental fees still apply.
Registration closes 24-hours in advance, or when 30 people RSVP.
Pool rental - $8; This fee applies to everyone who paddles.
Boat & Gear - $5; This fee applies only if you request a boat and gear. Please note your height & weight in your RSVP, so I know what size boat to bring.
Kayak Demo - $15; This fee applies if you request a specific boat. Please note the boat you want to demo in your RSVP.
Private Lessons - $75; 2-hr Private "Intro to Kayak" or "Kayak Roll" Lessons are available with advanced notice. Pool and gear rental fees are waived for private lessons. Private lessons may include up to 2 individuals covering the same content.
Why RSVPs are so important....
The pools are
expensive to rent, and this time New Mexico Kayak Instruction covers the
pool rental as a community service to local paddlers. RSVPs are needed
to ensure we have a minimum number of people to cover the pool rental
fees, and to limit enrollment so that the pool does not become
over-crowded. Also, by RSVP'ing, we are able to communicate via email
about last-minute changes, which often include cancellation due to
lightening, or other pool closures.
Please RSVP, and keep it current.
I was excited to take the pool class, even though a few friends ridiculed taking a kayak class ("What's so hard about kayaking?!"). The whitewater clinic presented challenges I was not expecting (physically, mentally or emotionally), and it heightened my awareness of the river, the sport, challenges and myself. It has taken me a week to process this experience, and I welcome the time it will take to continue to process both the instruction and personal learned experience. This course was positively intense!
I wanted to say thank you for the entire Pilar trip. It was a small class and you could have rescheduled but you didn't. I really learned a lot! Because of that weekend, I'm excited about the sport. I've been talking to my wife and friends about it nonstop! I'm trying to get others to sign up for your class. You do a really good job! Thanks again!
