Essentials of Recreational Kayaking (level 2)
This is without a doubt the best outdoor class I have ever taken. Kelly
and his team are totally skilled as teachers. I plan to sign up for every
class I can with this team. My enjoyment and skill level immediately
improved after one day. I didn't realize I was using body memory from
paddling a canoe many years ago that were not good practice with a
kayak. Take these classes! They're a great return on investment and a

Kelly is a great tactician with a keen ability to break the rivers'
energy into a series of teaching moments that were both appropriate for
our varying skill levels and allowed each of us to build confidence at every stage throughout the weekend. My goal is to be able to manipulate the river, and all of its energy, with the grace and finesse that Kelly has!

Excellent, well-organized class and instruction. The individualed attention on the Rio Grande trip really helped me put
newfound skills into practice. I also learned many skills

Paddle Safety (Kids 5 - 9)
This class was FANTASTIC because the instructor was very well educated and experienced. Kelly closely observed the girls skill level and encouraged those that needed a little extra to make all of us enjoy this wonderful event. I would like them [troop leaders] to know this activity is an opportunity to allow the girls to have a memory of a lifetime. It was a great event full of challenge, teamwork and FUN!!!!
My girls were Brownies. From a leader perspective, I wanted to see something fun, and that would build confidence. This was one of our first real "outings" as a Girl Scout. I was looking for something "different", something with a sense of adventure/out of the ordinary (something they don't do everyday) but controlled and safe. I also wanted something a bit challenging - physically, but also something they hadn't done before, something that would build confidence. This really fit the bill perfectly. They didn't' want to get out of the pool!
Advanced Kayak Touring (level 4)
This weekend course will delve deeper into navigation, chart reading, deep water rescues and towing systems for injured or seasick paddlers, and simulate paddling in ocean currents on the Rio Chama. This will be an overnight trip. Each person will need to pack their camping equipment, clothes, food and other accessories inside their kayak, and be comfortable camping in primitive areas.

I took a roll class from Kelly. I have had some previous instruction in rolling and in boat handling techniques, but I learned more from Kelly in three hours in the pool than I did in a two day course from another instructor. I am very close to being able to roll after only one class. I'm sure with another class I'll be able to roll quite well. Kelly has a unique capability to explain how to roll, and has the patience to work with people who are having difficulty learning. He is a great teacher!
I took the Intro to Kayaking (level 1) class and it was GREAT. I'd actually done a
lot of different types of kayaking (touring, sea, whitewater), but had
never gotten any formal instruction. Wow, what a difference a few hours
makes. I learned a lot of technique that
I had been lacking. Kelly is a great instructor and I was impressed
with how efficiently the class was put together. He is passionate about
enabling people to participate in the sport that he loves. Definitely
recommend this class to anyone interested in learning to kayak!
Coastal Kayaking on Inland Waters (level 3)
Kelly is a very good teacher - he presents learning as fun. His classes are relaxed and low pressure. I picked up many skills and knowledge that will make paddling easier and safer for me in the long run.
Great course, tons of information, practice. Marcel and Kelly are the
perfect teaching duo, the Oliver and Stan of coastal waters techniques.
Enjoyed sharing the experience with everyone who attended.

What an awesome class! Everything clicked into place in my head and my strokes are so much better!
I learned the "basics" that I "thought" I knew - after kayaking for 10 years, I realized I should have taken this course years ago…in addition to the "basics" I was amazed at the techniques I learned regarding paddling, strokes, maneuvers, rescues, navigation and expedition planning!

Even though I only took the Intro to Kayak class at the pool prior to the Coastal Kayaking on Inlandwaters 'Kayak Touring'
course, I was confident in performing the wet exit in open waters…the
rescue exercises were by far the biggest asset of the class.

Thanks for the info and the good class. Even though I've owned recreational kayaks for many years, I learned far more than I ever knew before.
I am impressed with organization and professionalism of Kelly's operation. The teaching methods are good and are reassuring to the extent they convey that the ability to kayak is within the reach for just about anybody (including not-so-young people like me!)
