So your troop has taken the Paddle, Pole & Roll clinic and wants to take their skills (and their boats) to the river!  Now what??  Come with us as we paddle through the Rio Grande Bosque.  The Rio Grande is one of Albuquerque's most overlooked recreational playgrounds!  Surrounded by Native American Pueblo lands and CABQ Open Space properties, they'll feel like they're 100's of miles from a major metropolitan city.  No buildings, no traffic, no noise, no people.  Just huge cottonwood trees and incredible views of the Sandia Mountains.

For your girls' first time on the river, they'll feel the gentle current pushing their boat downstream. They'll get a chance to practice all the flatwater strokes and learn new skills like reading the river, recognizing and avoiding hazards and trip-planning logistics.

We'll encounter a few easy Class I rapids along the way.  While this is a leisure float, it's also a great time to refine our paddling skills before moving out to Class II whitewater, the next class in the series.

Paddle, Pole and Roll is a required pre-requisite.

Special thanks to New Mexico Kayak Instruction and Kelly Gossett for a great weekend up in Pilar last month for the beginner lesson on the white water. My family had a fantastic time. Pictured is my 12 year old son who is profound deaf paddling the river. Kelly truly is a master kayak instructor that can teach at all levels of ability and provide hours of fun for the whole family.

Kayaking is a really great experience. It not only introduces the girls to a new skill but shows them they can accomplish something they probably thought they would never be capable of.
