March Meeting - This is the Sea Part 2

This class was FANTASTIC because the instructor was very well educated and experienced. Kelly closely observed the girls skill level and encouraged those that needed a little extra to make all of us enjoy this wonderful event. I would like them [troop leaders] to know this activity is an opportunity to allow the girls to have a memory of a lifetime. It was a great event full of challenge, teamwork and FUN!!!!

April Meeting - Overview of the Bosque Education Guide

Have you ever wondered what the Middle Rio Grande valley was like 500 years ago?  How has it changed in the last 50 or 100 years?  Can you identify the birds and wildlife as you paddle down the river?  Who owns the water, where did it come from and where exactly does it go when it leaves Albuquerque? 

Tish Morris, co-editor of the 699pg Bosque Education Guide will provide a brief glimpse into the vast history and ecosystems that make up the Middle Rio Grande.  Topics include, the geology of the valley, surface and groundwater, the demands on the river's water budget, natural history information and human influence, to name a few.

This is without a doubt the best outdoor class I have ever taken. Kelly and his team are totally skilled as teachers. I plan to sign up for every class I can with this team. My enjoyment and skill level immediately improved after one day. I didn't realize I was using body memory from paddling a canoe many years ago that were not good practice with a kayak. My girls were Brownies. From a leader perspective, I wanted to see something fun, and that would build confidence. This was one of our first real "outings" as a Girl Scout. I was looking for something "different", something with a sense of adventure/out of the ordinary (something they don't do everyday) but controlled and safe. I also wanted something a bit challenging - physically, but also something they hadn't done before, something that would build confidence. This really fit the bill perfectly. They didn't' want to get out of the pool!
